Most of these tall growing tree varieties below can reach heights of up to 8m plus.
Just remember that plants are living things and height growth is always dependant on the plant's environment and how happy they are in their position with sunlight, water and soil playing a major part in how tall the plants will eventually reach at maturity in any given space.
OUR TOP 10 TALLEST GROWING SCREENING TREE VARIETIES ARE:
1. CUPRESSOCYPARIS LEYLANDII 'LEIGHTON GREEN' - CONIFER
The Leighton Green Conifer will create a complete screen and has the capacity to reach heights of 10-15m tall.
Not only that, it is very fast growing, creating a quick and tall screen.
2. SYZIGIUM LEUHMANNII - LILLY PILLY
Syzygium luehmanii is an Australian Native Lilly Pilly variety which has the capacity to reach heights of 10-15m tall.
Lilly Pilly’s are fast growing making them an excellent choice for Hedging and Screening especially if you are after a Native and want something with a touch of colour.
3. WATERHOUSEA FLORIBUNDA - LILLY PILLY
The Waterhousea floribunda is also an Australian Native Lilly Pilly variety which can reach heights of 10-15m tall.
This variety is more tree like and perfect for a more informal hedge with its weeping foliage.
You can also create a pleached effect by clear trunk these to create room underneath for under planting.
Less maintenance than a traditional hedging plant.
4. ELAEOCARPUS EUMUNDII - QUANDONG
An Australian Native which is native to the Australian Rainforests reaching heights of 8-15m tall.
Beautiful new growth foliage in shades of reds and coppers.
Fast growing and perfect if you want a tall screen with very little maintenance. This variety holds its form well and best to let go to reach for the stars.
5. ELAEOCARPUS RETICULATIS - BLUEBERRY ASH TREE
The Blueberry Ash Tree is an Australian Native tree typically growing heights anywhere from 4-8m tall.
It also holds its form very well growing in a tall narrow like structure with little to no ongoing maintenance.
These can be used as a screening tree planted in a row.
You can also pleach/ clear trunk these to create room for under planting of smaller shrubs or grasses just like in the photo above.
6. ACMENA SMITHII - LILLY PILLY
An Australian Native Lilly Pilly variety which is one of the taller growing Lilly Pilly varieties and perfect for tall hedging and screening growing up to 6-10m tall.
7. CUPRESSUS SEMPERVIRENS 'GLAUCA' - PENCIL PINE CONIFER
The Glauca Pencil Pines are a Conifer variety and one of if not the best Pencil Pine variety for keeping their form in a neat and tight compact growth habit and producing less nuts than other varieties.
Perfect for tall screening but over a long period of time 10 years plus. They are a slow to moderate grower so these are for more of a long term investment than a quick one.
8. FICUS HILLII 'FLASH'
The Ficus Flash are fast growing and are commonly used as a screening hedge. They also work well to pleach or clear trunk so that you can create room underneath for under planting of smaller shrubs as in the photo above.
They can reach heights of up to 10m tall.
Some other factors that make these attractive is that they are a complete green in colour and they don’t produce flowers.
Ficus are however known for having invasive roots so be careful about planting near pipes, paving or pools.
9. TRISTANIOPSIS LAURINA 'LUSCIOUS - WATER GUM
Reaching height of up to 12m.
These are grown with a single clear trunk which will allow for smaller planting underneath.
10. BAMBOO - BAMBUSA TEXTILIS 'FUSCA' OR 'GRACILIS'
This is the best clumping Bamboo and this variety grows very quickly so much so it can be fully grown and screening out a very tall building in 18-24 months! Reaching height capacity of 6-8m tall.
These will create a fabulous, neat, narrow and tall screen with each plant spreading its distance to 1m and happily keeping trimmed.
11. PYRUS CALLERYANA 'CAPITAL', 'RED SPIRE', CLEVELAND SELECT' - ORNAMENTAL PEAR TREES
Ornamental Pear Trees are deciduous trees that are tall growing, each with their own individual heights.
Because these are deciduous you need to remember that you won’t have a full screen all year round, instead they will give you shade and screening in summer and when they drop their leaves in winter it will allow the sunlight in.
